The ACT features four sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science. The English section allots 45 minutes to answer 75 questions. The Math section gives you 60 minutes for 60 questions. Finally, the Reading and Science sections allow 35 minutes for 40 questions each. The ACT does not penalize for wrong answers, so guessing is ok as a last resort. For the English portion of the ACT, you will need to review punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure. The Reading section alternatively will focus on reading comprehension, rhetorical skills, and writing style.
The ACT, unlike the SAT, features a Science section which includes questions on Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, and Physics. For this section, the student will be required to analyze graphs and tables, review and analyze the process of an experiment, or compare theories and hypotheses of a passage.
The Math section of the ACT has questions that require a knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. It is necessary to be comfortable using geometric and algebraic equations to succeed on the ACT.
